Monsters Mash #42 Dawn of the Dead

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 26 October 2012 02:24 (A review of Dawn of the Dead (1978))

Now were getting towards the gory many years to after George Romero shock the world with Night of the Living Dead he does it again with the color sequel that also stands on its own Dawn of the Dead it has a new cast doesn't require seeing the first movie but the background is the same with the epidemic of zombie coming around people also compares this to consumerism comparing mall shoppers to zombie cause the location takes place in a mall it opens to many comedic effect and situation for many it was the grossest film of the 70s with the early works of Tom Sivini who also acts in this film. George A. Romero follows this up with Land of the Dead in 1985 and Day of the Dead in 2005 that represent the decade they were made so don't miss these these films are awesome.

Monsters Mash #41 Jaws

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 24 October 2012 02:10 (A review of Jaws (1975))

We been going through the basic history of horror we seen the terror from Translyvania from the Mind of a Killer from a doctor's laboratory from hell and at a deserted house in Texas now we're gonna look at the terror from the sea it's no guess that the monster is a killer shark a shark that kept people away from the water for almost forty years! what makes the film so effective is you don't see the shark that often and when that creepy John William theme and sometimes when there isn't any music the shark become present it scare that crap out of you the setting where your out in the ocean and no one can help you. Jaws was the first movie to gross $500 million dollars that started the summer blockbuster and launched the career of Steven Spielberg but that not why we care we care because it kick some serious @$$

Monsters Mash #40 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 19 October 2012 01:39 (A review of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre)

In the 60s the were the double feature, the house of horror spookhouse and the grindhouse cinema, the grindhouse cinema were the low grade films and they showed mostly exploitation movies, An Exploitation movie are movies that doesn't have any quality and usually focus on sex and violence, And now we've come to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre a horror movie in terms of the word horror what is not is a gore fest despite the name and I don't mean spoil it, there's no blood and there's only two chainsaw death and it only off screen . It was also treated like a documentary and according to American Movie, Mark Borshard said "its like something you see in science class" and I think I know he mean it does look like a documentary. And the opening with the narrator gives it a chilling feel it was supposed to be based on a real story but in reality it's loosley based on serial killer Ed Gein the same guy Norman Bates from Psycho and Hannibal Lecture from The Silence of the Lamb were based on so the plot is a group of friends picks up a hitchhiker which is a bad idea and then decide to check out a house which is another bad idea and all hell break loose to where they're murder by famous Leatherface and his family the tension and the final chase is just incredible anyway this movie isn't about the devil or anything supernatural it's about real and the scary thing rather it happens or not that it's could happen.

Monsters Mash #39 The Exorcist

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 18 October 2012 02:20 (A review of The Exorcist)

It's time for some Monsters Mash and our monster of the day is a little girl possessed by the devil I did say horror movies had a lot of balls but this one is sure balls to the walls shear terror of vomiting inducing stuff by all definition this is a true horror movie but for a genre that doesn't get a lot of respect this one is considered a film legend it one some golden globe and oscar and all that $#^% and is always referred as the scariest movie off all time you may or may not agree but back in 1973 there's no comparison it some freaky deaky $#^% the special effect are a real show stopper and I can't show you the best of them because it get so graphic I might be crossing the line here and might spoil the movie. The fogginess in the movie that would have all been CGI but it was really that cold, One of the best scene is the opening you can tell something bad is happening, the did justice by grossing out it's audience but does it effect you in a deeper way do you believe in the devil? it one of the scariest movie of all time and if you don't agree well when that face come into your dreams you'll know what i'm talking about .

Monsters Mash #38 Night of the Living Dead

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 17 October 2012 01:38 (A review of Night of the Living Dead)

Halfway through October halfway through our history of horror now we come to Night of the Living Dead it usually called as the middle ground of the horror genre it was the first to depict gruesome act of violence. As zombie getting stabbed, flesh getting eating and guts all over for today standard it's pretty tamed but in 1968 it was sure a turning point in horror films and films in general after the movie the MPAA rating system came in not if it had anything to do with it but it would be the last horror movie to have an attendance for pre-teens and adolescents and back then an African-American man in a starring role would never been unheard of. the movie has one of the best openings ever back then horror movies would usually have an hour to explaining why the dead are a rising. But they cut straight to zombies the whole concept of a group of people trying to survive in is a perfect example of survival instinct. George A. Romero unknownlingy created one of the big sub-genre in horrors ever the zombies he had some balls he was able to sell this movie to big production company but they wanted a love sub-plot and an change ending but he said no because he's a true director and he had balls and balls is what this genre all about.

Monsters Mash #35 House of Wax

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 13 October 2012 03:02 (A review of House of Wax)

House of Wax is a unique film for the 50s and this is one time I'm reviewing a remake no not the 2005 one but the one in 1953 that was a remake of the 1933 movie Mystery of the Wax Museum but the one I saw was the 1953 one it stars Vincent Price as Henry Jarrod who runs a wax museum he treats all the wax figures as if they were real people he give a few people a tour and his partner comes in to tell him that he can make money off the insurance of the museum if he burns figures down but he doesn't and they get into a fight the reason why this fight is so memorable because it the only good its so climatic watching all the figures burning down the only thing that sucks after this scene the movie goes downhill from there Jarrod escape the burning museum and he goes around killing people with an henchman named Igor and there's a guy running around killing people we assumed that its Jarrod but we got if I reveal it the plot will get more confusing. Anyway what's really a let down is that the fight scene happens in the first part of the movie and its the only memorable plot the movie was also shown in 3D and that was a real craze at the time even though House of Wax is really good Vincent Price is a great actor and this was got him his starring role.

Monsters Mash #33 Hammer Frankenstein

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 12 October 2012 02:04 (A review of The Curse of Frankenstein)

More Hammer time can't touch it anyway beside their Dracula films Hammer had their own series of Frankenstein there was also Revenge of Frankenstein, Curse of Frankenstein, Evil of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Created Woman, Frankenstein must Destroyed, Horror of Frankenstein and Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell he creates a monster each movie this one was played by Christopher Lee I just love the look of his laboratory and the crude stuff going on in there Peter Cushing played Frankenstein throughout the series what's usually Frankenstein is guilty for his work Peter is just one malicious bastard he doesn't give two $#*! who he has to kill not only he's murderer but a rapist two although they work together in Horrors of Dracula and in many others Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing were the new Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.

Monsters Mash #32 Hammer Horror of Dracula

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 12 October 2012 01:52 (A review of Dracula)

We went through the silent era of the 20s and the golden era of 30s and 40s but the 50s were more about in America were all about the atomic age and we just went through a few of them that when hammer came to play they were a British Company that remade all the great gothic horrors they were in color blood and cleavages what put them on the map and made a star out of Christopher Lee was there Dracula film it the only solid Dracula series there was Horror of Dracula, Brides of Dracula, Dracula Prince of Darkness, Dracula has risen from the Grave, Taste the Blood of Dracula, Scars of Dracula, Dracula A.D. 1972, and The Satanic Rites of Dracula but were gonna talk about Horrors of Dracula the theme song what gives me chills and if you listen closely you can here the theme song anyway the film begins with a coffin and blood dripping who's bleeding why it's bleeding who cares. The cast is great especially Christopher Lee he's known for being the second best Dracula, Bela Lugosi set the voice and rules in general but Lee was bad@$$ look at that face, Michael Gough (who would later be famous play Alfred in the Tim Burton/Joel Shumacker Batman series) plays Arthur Holmwood who at the beginning is a skeptic but becomes a believer and Peter Cushing is awesome at the fearless Vampire Hunter Van Helsing he doesn't care he just wants his damn vampire just like the Universal One that stray far from the book this version strays even further one thing Jonathan Harker was going to buy the property to Dracula but in the movie was to be a librarian hired from Dracula in the book Harker was married to Mina but in the movie Harker was married to Lucy another thing Harker died in the movie pretty early he was alive till the end of the book and the character Renfield is not present you can't have a Dracula movie without Renfield the movie has one of the best fight scenes ever in a horror film it between good and evil the scene where Dracula burns to death was deleted and lost because it was to explicit for 1958 but a guy in japan found the missing footage and could be released on a new dvd.
